The European Parliament examines the regulation of short-term rentals in the European Union

The European Parliament has recently established a Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the EU (HOUS Committee) with the aim of analysing the challenges posed by access to housing and of proposing regulatory responses at the European level.

In this context, Marimón Abogados is honoured to contribute to this debate through the participation of our partner Yolanda Martínez, from the EU Competition Law Department, who has prepared a legal study on the regulation of short-term rentals (STRs) in the European Union.

The report reviews the latest case law developments, with particular emphasis on the CJEU’s ruling in the Cali Apartments SCI case, and analyses the regulatory measures that Member States may adopt in order to safeguard access to housing as a legitimate public interest.

This legal analysis is published alongside a complementary study by Claire Colomb, which examines the STR phenomenon from a sociological and urban studies perspective, thus providing a multidisciplinary insight into one of the most pressing issues for the future of European cities.

📄 The full study can be consulted here.
